Swing, Swing, Swing!

I have a passion for Swing!

I am all about the dance. I'm all about a man and a woman getting together and the guy leading and the girl following. I'm all about improvising and making up new moves and keeping both of us on our toes. I am not all about standardization and stylization of Swing. Swing was originated as a departure from the constraints of the ballroom of the day. It was centered arround Big Band Swing (a form of Jazz). And what is Jazz? Improvization!

I am the Instructor for the BYUH Swing Club. My instuction model is this: Teach them the fundamentals of rythum, timing, and some basics of leading and following, then teach them whatever other moves they want to know. I don't like teaching people how to "look" like any particular style. I dance closer to east coast swing than anything else, but it's still not the same. I beleive that everyone should find their own style, one that works for them, and continue to refine it to suit thir tastes.

The performing group for BYUH Culture Night

This is the few of us from the club that danced a choreography to Stay Cat Strut for the BYUH Culture Night.

Only minutes away....

.... from being fresh out of "care". It took just about all the energy I had to get everything and everyone ready to perform. Kelsey is my dance partner; Her nickname is "Sassy Hips Of Death". Enough said.

Dips are fun!

Especially when you can do it to someone who is not suspecting anything!

Comming out of the Mango Slide

During our solo, Kelsey and I did a number of moves: the "Sassy Slide of Death", the "Airplane", the "Mango Slide", and the "Bodycast". There were several other couples that also did solos durring our performance.

Life Happens: Swing Helps

I beleive that Swing Dancing is good for the soul, and I highly reccomend it to anyone who can still move on two feet!

The BYUH Swing Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-10pm. See the Site for details: BYUH Swing Club or email me.
